The Taliban has claimed responsibility for a roadside bomb in which an intelligence official and four other people were killed in southern Afghanistan.

The remote-controlled bomb exploded in the Nad Ali district.

The head of national security in the region said an Afghan electrician who had been travelling in the same vehicle as Mohammad Ali Barak and his bodyguards was also killed.

The attack comes just days after the US President George W Bush paid a brief visit to Afghanistan.
