US house urges halt to Palestinian aid

The US House of Representatives has passed a resolution urging that direct US aid to the Palestinian Authority be stopped as long as the militant group Hamas calls for Israel's destruction.

The non-binding resolution was passed by 418 votes to one. The Senate had already passed a similar measure.

Hamas is expected to form a new Palestinian government following a victory over the ruling Fatah Party in last month's Palestinian elections.

The Bush Administration is currently evaluating its aid program to the Palestinians following Hamas's victory.
