A group holding four Western peace activists captive in Iraq has said it is giving a 'last chance' for its demands to be met.

In a videotape that aired on Al-Jazeera, the Swords of Truth Brigade called for the release of Iraqi prisoners from 'Iraqi and American prisons'.

Norman Kember, Tom Fox, James Loney and Harmeet Singh Sooden were abducted in Baghdad on 26 November.

They were part of a delegation from the Christian Peacemaker Teams, a body which dispatches volunteers to crisis areas in a bid to reduce armed conflict.

In a previous video message, the kidnappers had threatened to execute the four if their demands were not met by 8 December, but there had been no other contact with the group until now.

In the video, the four hostages appeared pale, standing against a wall. Three of them spoke to the camera, although Al-Jazeera showed the videotape without sound.

The reappearance of the men comes amid a new spate of hostage-taking in Iraq.

The fate of seized US reporter Jill Carroll remains uncertain, while two German engineers and two Kenyan citizens have also been seized in the past week.
