An inquiry is to be carried out into the conduct of the Metropolitan Police chief, Sir Ian Blair, after the Tube shooting of the Brazilian Jean Charles de Menezes.

Mr Menezes, 27, was shot dead last July by police who mistook him for a suicide bomber.

The Independent Police Complaints Commission said the investigation will be carried out following an official complaint last month from the family of Mr de Menezes over alleged misinformation following his death.

On the day of the shooting the police commissioner told a news conference that, as far as he understood, the man shot dead had been directly linked to the anti-terrorist operation following the failed suicide bomb attacks on London the day before.
