Man charged over baby's death in Waterford

A man has appeared before Waterford Circuit Court charged in relation to the death of a baby boy following a circumcision in the city two years ago.

Osagie Igbinedion, who is from Nigeria, is charged with recklessly engaging in conduct in and about a circumcision of Callis Osaghie in a manner which created a risk of serious harm or death to that child.

He has pleaded not guilty over the incident, which took place on 17 August 2003.

The trial before a jury of 10 men and two women is expected to last three days.
