Phibsboro drugs seizure - Four arrests
Phibsboro drugs seizure - Four arrests

Nine people are in garda custody following the discovery of more than €2m worth of heroin, cocaine and crack cocaine at three separate locations in Dublin.

Gardaí are questioning two women in connection with the seizure of 15g of cocaine at Dublin Airport with an estimated value of almost €2m.

One of the women is in her 20s, the other in her 30s. They are from the Finglas and Ballymun areas of north Dublin.

The two women had arrived in Dublin on a flight from the Mexican resort of Cancun.

The cocaine seizure was the result of a joint operation between the Garda National Drugs Unit and customs officers.

The two women are believed to have collected the drugs in Central America for a well-known north Dublin cocaine dealing gang.

Four held in Phibsboro

In a separate development, another four people were arrested when a crack cocaine laboratory was raided in north Dublin.

More than €120,000 worth of the drug was seized at a flat in Phibsboro which gardaí believe was the base for a crack dealing operation run by West Africans.

The Garda North Central Drugs Unit set up the operation to target the gang following a noticeable increase in the highly addictive form of the drug on the streets and an increase in cocaine-fuelled violence.

The gang was suspected of converting the cocaine into crack form and selling it to addicts around the Moore Street area for about €50 a ball.

About a third of a kilo of the cocaine which the gardaí seized was already converted into crack and ready for sale.

Gardaí confronted by armed man

In the third incident, three people were arrested after gardaí searching a house in Clondalkin in Dublin overnight were confronted by an armed man.

The 32-year-old pointed a pistol at gardaí, but was disarmed.
The incident happened as gardaí began searching the house at Greenfort Crescent in which €6,000 worth of heroin along with a quantity of cash were found.

The man is now being held at Tallaght Garda Station under Section 30 of the Offences Against The State Act.

A 30-year-old female and an 18-year-old man were also arrested and are being questioned at Tallaght.
