Democratic Unionist Party leader Rev Ian Paisley has said there was no transparent verification of IRA decommissioning in today's announcement.
He said today's announcement showed the duplicity and dishonesty of the two governments and the IRA.
Mr Paisley said the Commission had simply taken the IRA's word at face value. 'Not one iota was given to verify that assurance,' he said.
He dismissed the independent witnesses, saying they were approved by the IRA and therefore were accepted by the IRA and in no way could be independent.
He said there had been a cunning cover-up and no announcement of what had been decommissioned, as was required by unionists.
DUP MP Jeffrey Donaldson earlier said he remained to be convinced.
'The estimates were not precise. We need greater transparency of this process and we've been left short on detail. There has been a lot of fine rhetoric and fine words, but there is little substance. That’s the difficulty,' said Mr Donaldson.
He continued: 'I have got to convince a very sceptical unionist community who have been here before. Promises have been made before, there have been false dawns'.
'Based on what I've heard, I remain to be convinced myself that this time it's for real - that all IRA weapons have been decommissioned in an effective manner. We lack concrete evidence necessary, not even in inventory or the numbers of weapons involved.'
