A 56-year-old lorry driver who was involved in a collision with a car which left four members of one family dead has been given a three-year prison sentence at Clonmel Circuit Court.

Michael McGrath from Hackettstown in Co Carlow pleaded guilty to dangerous driving causing death outside Cahir in Co Tipperary.

Mary Dalton, her daughters Mary Downes and Kathleen Quish, and Ms Downes' three-year-old son Robert, were killed in the collision in January of last year.

The family members were on their way to Dublin Zoo for a treat for Robert and his five-year-old brother, when the accident happened on the main Cork to Dublin road at Kilcoran Lodge.
