An independent engineers' report into the National Aquatic Centre has identified 126 cracks including some that have been repaired but continue to leak.

The report, by engineers Malachy Walsh and Partners, says there is extensive cracking of the side walls of the competition pool and the leisure pool.

When the engineers examined the centre's plant rooms they found the cracks, some of which are over significant lengths of the walls.

Yesterday RTÉ News obtained exclusive footage of leaks inside the centre.

Earlier in the week, the Taoiseach dismissed reports of leaks as 'red herrings'.

It is understood Dublin Waterworld, which operates the centre, believes the cracks have been caused by movement in the floor which has also caused metal supports for pipes to twist and buckle.

The Government company which owns the building, Campus and Stadium Development Ireland Ltd, has taken legal action against Dublin Waterworld. It claims Dublin Waterworld failed to repair and maintain the building properly.

Dublin Waterworld claims the building was defective from the beginning.
