The Taoiseach has welcomed the European Parliament's vote of support for the McCartney family, saying it was an indication of the international attention and concern about this case.
In a statement issued earlier today, Berite Ahern said the McCartney sisters had done a tremendous job in highlighting their case and demanding justice for their brother, Robert, who was killed in Belfast in January.
Mr Ahern added they had shown extraordinary courage and tenacity.
The European Parliament approved a motion on the use of EU funds to help the McCartney family in their legal campaign to bring the killers of their brother to justice.
555 MEPs voted in favour of the motion, while four voted against with 48 abstentions.
The resolution will make anti-terrorist funds available to finance a civil action if the PSNI is unable to bring a criminal prosecution in the case.
Members of the IRA are alleged to have taken part in stabbing and beating Mr McCartney to death outside Magennis’s Bar in Belfast last January.
