Wayne O'Donoghue - Faces murder trial

A 20-year-old engineering student has been charged with the murder of 11-year-old Robert Holohan in Midleton, Co Cork, last January.

Wayne O’Donoghue of Ballyedmond in Midleton was served with the Book of Evidence this morning and returned for trial at the Central Criminal Court.

Mr O’Donoghue did not speak in court but nodded to acknowledge that he understood a question from Judge Michael Patwell. He has now been remanded in custody.

It was Mr O’Donoghue’s eighth appearance in court since he was arrested on 17 January and charged with Robert's manslaughter.

He had been due to be served with the Book of Evidence and returned for trial today on a manslaughter charge. However, that charge was struck out and replaced with one of murder.

Robert's body was found on 12 January near Inch Strand in east Cork, about 19km from his Ballyedmond home. He had been missing since 4 January.
