Up to 125 people are now believed to have been killed in this morning's suicide car bomb blast in central Iraq.
The death toll makes the blast the deadliest single attack since Saddam Hussein was deposed.
Local officials said another 130 people were injured in the attack in the Shia Muslim town of Hilla, 96km south of Baghdad.
Emergency appeals have been made for blood donations and doctors have been making their way to Hilla from nearby cities.
The bomber had targeted a crowd of people queuing for medical certificates needed to apply for government jobs.
Separately, a US soldier was shot dead at a traffic checkpoint in Baghdad late on Sunday.
The number of US servicemen killed in Iraq since the invasion was launched in March 2003 has now risen to 1,487.
