Palestinian killed trying to stab Israeli

Israeli soldiers have shot and killed a Palestinian who tried to stab an Israeli soldier in the West Bank city of Hebron.

The incident occurred despite the recently agreed ceasefire between the Palestinian President, Mahmoud Abbas, and the Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon.

The assailant is reported to have approached an army position outside the Tomb of the Patriarchs shrine and attempted to stab a soldier, who pushed him away.

His comrades shot the Palestinian, wounding him.

In Gaza, a mortar bomb launched by militants struck a military post, but no injuries were reported.

In a separate development, Israel has handed over the remains of 15 militants shot dead by the army during attempted attacks in Gaza.

The bodies were handed over at the main Erez crossing point
between Israel and Gaza after being transported from the Israeli
forensic medical unit at Abu Kabir, near Tel Aviv.

Palestinian sources said the 15 had all been killed between 23 September and 6 October last year. Seven were members of Hamas, while the others belonged to various other armed factions.
