The 20-year-old man charged with the manslaughter of Robert Holohan has been transferred from Cork Prison to the Midlands Prison.

Wayne O'Donoghue from Ballyedmond in Midleton was transferred this afternoon.

The Irish Prison Service said that Mr O’Donoghue could have been at risk, and for safety reasons the service thought it better to move him.

The Midlands Prison, which is beside Portlaoise Prison, is a facility with single cell occupancy.

Mr O'Donoghue is due in court again on Thursday.

He was escorted by gardaí from Midleton Garda Station to the nearby courthouse shortly after 8.30pm last night to be charged.

He was charged before Judge Michael Patwell with Robert's manslaughter on 4 January last.

Detective Sergeant Brian Goulding told the court that, when charged, Mr O'Donoghue replied that he had nothing to say.

His solicitor, Frank Buttimer, said he would not be making an application for bail at this time.
