Prisoner escapes from Dublin hospital

A search is underway for a prisoner who escaped from custody while being treated in a Dublin hospital yesterday evening.

The 26-year-old man from Ballymun in Dublin fled the grounds of St James's Hospital at around 6pm.

He had been brought from Portlaoise Prison and was due to stay overnight for medical treatment.

He was coming to the end of a sentence for drug-related offences and robbery.

He is the third prisoner to escape from custody in recent weeks while being escorted outside of prison grounds.
