26 people shot dead in Honduras

26 people were killed in Honduras late on Thursday after gunmen opened fire on a local bus in the north of the country.

The bus was carrying mainly women and children when it was attacked some 125 miles from the capital, Tegucigalpa.

35 people were wounded in the attack, which officers believe was a message from criminal gangs to President Ricardo Maduro and other crime-busting politicians.

President Maduro said the attack was 'one of the most barbaric and cowardly acts in Honduran history'.
