A man who barricaded himself in a hotel room with explosives along Australia's Gold Coast tourist strip surrendered to police on Christmas Eve after a 16-hour siege.
The 43-year-old had claimed to be holding hostages.
Queensland State Police confirmed there were no hostages inside the room of the Grand Hotel, but a small amount of 'potentially explosive material' was found in the man's possession.
Police feared he may have booby-trapped the room, which had its door sealed, possibly with nails and a sealant.
The unidentified man made no demands during the siege, which ended peacefully, but it is still unclear what sparked the incident.
