The US Secretary of State, Colin Powell, is in The Hague in the Netherlands to meet EU leaders.
The talks are part of US efforts to heal the transatlantic rift resulting from differences over the conflict in Iraq.
In Brussels yesterday, Mr Powell secured the agreement of NATO foreign ministers to expand a training mission in Iraq.
Meanwhile, it is reported that US President George W Bush will visit Brussels in February to meet with EU and NATO leaders.
A White House spokesman said President Bush would also make other stops in Europe that will be announced later.
