Mark Thatcher - Accused of financing failed coup

The trial of Sir Mark Thatcher in South Africa on charges that he helped finance a failed coup in Equatorial Guinea has been postponed until 8 April next year.

Mr Thatcher, son of former British Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher, was arrested at his Cape Town home in August and charged with violating South Africa's anti-mercenary law.

He has continually denied being involved in the plan to topple the government of Equatorial Guinea.

If the allegations against him are proven, he could be jailed in South Africa or extradited to Equatorial Guinea to face further accusations.

Yesterday, a judge ruled that Mr Thatcher will have to answer questions from the West African nation's investigators.
