The Taoiseach, Bertie Ahern, is to meet privately with the DUP leader, Rev Ian Paisley, in London on Wednesday morning.
It comes as efforts continue to broker a deal in Northern Ireland's peace process.
An SDLP delegation met Mr Ahern in Dublin today while Sinn Féin negotiators were in Downing Street.
Afterwards, Mr Ahern said that all parties in the North's peace process were working in good faith, but that if they refused to move their positions then both governments would have to review the situation.
Asked about the governments putting forward their own initiative if the current efforts end in failure, Mr Ahern said that he always kept in mind what might have to be done next.
However, he said that he would prefer to wait until he saw what the position was at the end of the week.
In advance of the meeting, SDLP leader Mark Durkan had been critical of the two governments for only showing their formula for a breakthrough in the peace process to Sinn Féin and the DUP.
The DUP and Sinn Féin are seeking clarification on a number of sensitive issues.
Both parties are saying any deal would have to be supported by a Peace Fund from the British Exchequer. For several months, business leaders have been meeting all of Northern Ireland's parties, stressing the need for such an initiative.
