Doubts over UN hostage takers

Annetta Flanigan - Abducted in Kabul

The Afghan government has said it believes that three kidnapped UN workers are in the hands of criminals and not the Taliban-linked militants who have threatened to kill them.

The workers, including the Co Armagh woman, Annetta Flanigan, were abducted in Kabul three weeks ago.

A group calling itself the ‘Army of Muslims’ has said it will kill the hostages if Taliban prisoners are not freed from jail.

However, an Afghan government official said he believed the group was not holding the hostages.
