A spokesperson for the French Defence Ministry has said the medical records of the late Yasser Arafat can be released to certain parties, such as his family.
The announcement follows statements made by Palestinian authorities who say the lack of details about the cause of Mr Arafat's death have fuelled speculation in the Middle East and beyond.
Since his death on 11 November, suggestions have abounded that the 75-year-old may have been poisoned.
The Palestinian Foreign Minister, Nabil Shaath, says the release of Mr Arafat's records will help to put a halt to those rumours.
