An Israeli soldier accused of firing bullets into the body of a dead Palestinian schoolgirl has been suspended from duty.

The officer is suspected of firing at the girl's body after other soldiers had shot her dead.

She was found in the southern Gaza Strip with 20 bullets in her.

Meanwhile, a car bomb has exploded outside the Palestinian Authority security headquarters in Gaza City in what officials said was an attempt to kill a cousin of the Palestinian leader, Yasser Arafat.

The explosion happened moments after a convoy of cars had left the headquarters carrying the intended victim, Moussa Arafat, who is the head of security in Gaza.

No one was injured in the incident.

Reports say the attack is an indication of deepening faction fighting within the Palestinian movement.
