Up to 30 people are reported to have been killed in violence across Iraq.
Reports say at least 17 people were killed and 20 wounded when a suicide car bomber detonated his vehicle near a police academy in the Iraqi city of Kirkuk.
A local police chief said the car bombing had killed 14 police and three civilians.
Separately, in northern Iraq US-led forces backed by warplanes have gone into action against insurgents near the city of Mosul.
It has been reported that at least 13 people were killed and 52 were wounded in the clashes in the town of Tallafar.
Witnesses said the fighting began when Iraqi troops, backed by US forces, tried to conduct searches in the area.
Baghdad compound targeted
Elsewhere, three mortars have struck the Baghdad compound which houses the US embassy and Iraqi government. The rounds hit the compound as the interim parliament met.
And a pipeline near Basra has been attacked just two days after northern exports were disrupted by an attack on a pipeline to Turkey.
