There are reports that the two French journalists who were kidnapped in Iraq two weeks ago may soon be freed.

One of the men's employers at the French newspaper, Le Figaro, has said Georges Malbrunot and Christian Chesnot have been handed over to another militant group which, he said, was in favour of releasing them.

The French government has confirmed the handover but the whereabouts of the journalists are still unknown.

Le Figaro's Malbrunot and Radio France correspondent Chesnot were seized by a group called the Islamic Army as they were travelling between Baghdad and Najaf on 20 August.
