Former rebels and opposition figures in Ivory Coast have agreed on a peace deal to end a civil war in which thousands have died and more than a million haver been uprooted from their homes.
In two days of talks in the Ghanian capital, Accra, African leaders and UN Secretary General Kofi Annan brokered the deal which demands that rebel forces holding the north of the country begin disarming by mid-October.
It also sets out a timetable to settle key issues like citizenship and who is entitled to become president.
Mr Annan said he would closely monitor how the new agreement was being implemented.
