A tribunal backed by the UN into the crimes against humanity allegedly committed by the rebel Revolutionary United Force in Sierra Leone opened today.
The force is held responsible for many of the killings and abductions committed during the country's ten-year civil war.
It is expected that more than 200 witnesses will testify against members of the group.
Three of its leaders have been indicted on 18 counts of war crimes and crimes against humanity.
