Renewed fighting in the Democratic Republic of Congo has sparked fears for the fragile peace settlement there.
Helicopters from the UN mission in DR Congo, have fired warning shots at positions held by dissident soldiers in eastern DRC.
The shots were reportedly fired in the direction of dissident soldiers led by Jules Mutebusi, who have been clashing with DRC
government forces since the weekend in the town of Kamanyola in the east of the country.
Mutebusi is one of two renegade army officers who led rebellious soldiers into the eastern town of Bukavu early this month. The renegade forces held the town for a week before pulling out.
Fighting broke out in Kamanyola in the early hours of Saturday,
between Mutebusi's soldiers and the army, according to UN-backed Radio Okapi. It is now reported that Mutebusi and 100 of his men are being surrounded by the DCR army.
