Bribery case against Sharon dropped

Ariel Sharon - Lack of evidence on bribery allegations
Ariel Sharon - Lack of evidence on bribery allegations

The Israeli Attorney General has decided against indicting the Prime Minister Ariel Sharon on charges of bribery.

A report on an Israeli television station, Channel Ten, claims Menachem Mazuz has closed the case over a lack of evidence against Mr Sharon.

However, there will not be any official confirmation of this until later in the week.

The allegations centre around hundreds of thousands of dollars in payments for work on a Greek resort which was never completed.

A property developer is said to have made the payments in the late 1990s to Mr Sharon's son, Gilad.
