The Israeli Prime Minister, Ariel Sharon, has submitted a revised version of his plan for a phased withdrawal from the Gaza Strip to a meeting of his Cabinet.
However, ministers are not being asked to vote on the proposal today, indicating that Mr Sharon still does not have a majority in favour of it.
The plan is opposed by key members of the cabinet, including Mr Sharon's main rival in the Likud party, the former prime minister Benjamin Netanyahu.
If accepted, the plan would see the phased evacuation of 7,500 Jewish settlers from 21 enclaves in Gaza, which is also home to 1.3 million Palestinians.
