The British journalist who broke the story about Israel's secret weapons programme in 1986 was released from Israeli custody one day after his arrest.
Peter Hounam, who interviewed the whistleblower Mordechai Vanunu 18 years ago, had recently returned to Israel to make a documentary for the BBC following Vanunu's release from jail.
He was arrested yesterday on suspicion of having arranged a television interview with Mr Vanunu in violation of state gag orders.
Witnesses said policemen escorted Mr Hounam to his hotel, searched his room and then took him away by car.
The journalist denied being a spy and criticised the Israeli
security forces as he was released from a Jerusalem prison
