At least 28 people, including 19 Indian soldiers, have been killed in a landmine attack in Indian-administered Kashmir.

Officials say three women and six children were among the dead. Some of the soldiers were accompanied by their families.

The attack happened as the troops were travelling by bus in a convoy from Srinagar to Jammu, at Lowermunda, about 100 km south of Srinagar.

The bus was ripped apart by the explosion and caught fire.

The militant group Hizbul Mujahideen says it carried out the attack to avenge the killing of senior commanders.
