The first elections to be held in Afghanistan since the overthrow of the Taliban regime have been postponed from June until September.

The first elections to be held in Afghanistan since the overthrow of the Taliban regime have been postponed from June until September.

The delay was announced by President Hamid Karzai, who said parliamentary and presidential elections would now be held at the same time.

Officials had warned that security concerns and delays in voter registration could lead to a postponement.
