Portmarnock golf club breaches equality laws

The Dublin District Court has found that Portmarnock Golf Club, which does not allow women to become members, has breached the Equal Status Act.

The Dublin District Court has found that Portmarnock Golf Club, which does not allow women to become members, has breached the Equal Status Act.

However, the court has adjourned a decision on a sanction against the club until after proceedings in the High Court have taken place.

Portmarnock Golf Club is challenging the constitutionality of the Equal Status Act in the High Court.

The Equality Authority has welcomed the Dublin District Court ruling.
