A new report on the Derrybrien bogslide in Co Galway sets out strict conditions which must be implemented before work re-commences on a €60m windfarm.
But local residents tonight described the Galway Co Council report as a 'whitewash' and said they are disappointed the council is prepared to allow the controversial windfarm to go ahead.
The report says any further work on the site on a mountain overlooking the village will have to be carefully managed and controlled.
It says all excavated materials should be removed from the site and disposed of in a non-sensitive location.
The report also warns that some turbines may have to be abandoned or relocated and great care taken with roads and drainage.
The council says it is studying the possibility of taking legal action over the pollution caused by the bogslide.
Hibernian Wind Power, the ESB-owned subsidiary building the windfarm, has said it will carefully examine the findings and recommendations in the report.
An earlier report commissioned by the company accepted that construction work on the site triggered the landslide.
The Derrybrien Landslide Committee said this morning that the company should be forced to reapply for planning permission before being allowed to go ahead with the completion of the project.
