A court in Belfast has been told that a native of the Philippines had links to an Islamic organisation with close ties to al-Qaeda.
Belfast Magistrates Court heard Jaybe Ofrasio, 31, was arrested last week at his home in Hawthorn Street, west Belfast, under the Terrorism Act.
He was charged with entering into an arrangement in April 2003, whereby money was made available to another knowing it would be used for terrorist purposes.
A second charge alleged that Mr Ofrasio entered into an arrangement whereby property was made available for terrorist purposes.
The court was told the case centres around an email sent from the Far East.
Telephone records and financial transactions have also been studied as part of the inquiry, which has stretched from Australia and the Philippines to Northern Ireland.
Mr Ofrasio was remanded in custody for a week.
