Iraq explosions: 16 people killed

At least 16 people, including three American soldiers, have been killed in a series of explosions in Iraq.

It is reported that four people died in two explosions in the same neighbourhood in central Baghdad this evening. Another 14 people were wounded.

It is thought at least nine people were killed in this morning's car bomb attack in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul.

At least 44 other people were hurt in the explosion which happened outside a police station. All the dead and injured are Iraqi.

A policeman said the blast was so powerful that there were casualties even inside the building.

In a separate incident, three US soldiers were killed when their convoy was attacked while travelling between the towns of Kirkuk and Tikrit.
