Five found guilty in Keane murder trial

All five men accused of murdering the Limerick crime figure, Kieran Keane, in January of this year have been found guilty by a jury this evening.

The jury also returned guilty verdicts on the five for the attempted murder of Owen Treacy, the State's chief witness in the trial, - and for false imprisonment.

The five men are Desmond Dundon of Hyde Road, David 'Frogs Eye' Stanners of Pine View gardens, James McCarthy of Delmege Park, Christopher 'Smokey' Costelloe of Moylish Avenue, and Anthony 'Noddy' McCarthy of Fair Green.

The five men will each receive a mandatory life sentence for murder. They will also receive jail terms for the attempted murder and for charges of falsely imprisoning both Kieran Keane and Owen Treacy.

The trial took place amid tight security on the grounds of Clover Hill Prison in Dublin. It sat for 29 days and the jury spent over 15 hours arriving at their verdicts.

Earlier, the jury were told that they could return majority verdicts of 10-2 or 11-1.
