A US court has ruled that prisoners held by the US military at Guantanamo Bay in Cuba should have access to lawyers and the US court system.
The federal appeals court said it did not accept that the US government had 'unchecked authority' in the cases of 660 people currently being held as 'enemy combatants' at the base.
In an earlier blow to US President George Bush's war on terror, the court ruled that he does not have the power to detain an American citizen seized on US soil as an 'enemy combatant'.
The White House said that it found that ruling 'troubling and flawed' and said that it would seek a judicial review.
