Nine children killed in Afghanistan raid

US forces in Afghanistan have admitted that nine children were mistakenly killed in an air attack near the city of Ghazni, in the south east of the country.

Afghan sources say the Americans bombed the house because they believed it was being used by Taliban fighters preparing an attack.

But after the bombing, it emerged that an Afghan family was inside and ten people, including nine children, were killed.

The American military has said it regrets the loss of any innocent life.

Earlier, 18 people were injured when a bomb rigged to a bicycle went off in the main market of the southern city of Kandahar.

Local police said explosives may have been rigged to a bicycle.

They have also said they suspect members of the ousted Taliban regime may have been responsible.
