The Data Protection Commissioner is concerned about the amount of personal information Aer Lingus will have to pass to US Immigration.

The Data Protection Commissioner, Joe Meade, has expressed his concern about the amount of personal information Aer Lingus will have to pass to the US Immigration authorities.

The Irish airline is set to join other European carriers in providing the information on passengers from next month.

The development is part of an American drive to speed up immigration control and combat global terrorism.

European airlines which fail to pass on passenger details face heavy fines or may find they will not be allowed to land in the US.
