watch

In Liberia, the outgoing president, Charles Taylor, has appealed to rebels to 'submit to the democratic process'.

In a pre-recorded broadcast, Mr Taylor said that he was being forced into exile, but that he hoped one day to return.

Speaking on the eve of his resignation, Mr Taylor also accused the US of funding rebels who have besieged the capital, Monrovia, for a month.
