An Irishman serving with the British Army was killed yesterday in Basra.

An Irishman serving with the British Army was killed yesterday in Basra.

The British Ministry of Defence has named him as 28-year old Lance Corporal Ian Malone, from Dublin. He was a member of the Irish Guards.

Earlier, a British military spokesman said most of the city is now in the hands of British forces.

UK military officials are also trying to confirm whether a body they found is that of Ali Hassan al-Majid, better known as Chemical Ali, one of President Saddam Hussein's top commanders.
