Two more US airlines have decided to end stopovers at Shannon while carrying US troops.

North American Airlines and Miami Air are both charter troop carriers for the US military.

They confirmed tonight to TG4 that they have stopped using Shannon Airport.

Both said that security at the airport was of concern to them.

Anti-war call for end to 'bullying'

Speakers at a press conference held by the Irish anti-war movement in Dublin today called on the US to stop bullying and attempting to blackmail the UN.

The organisation was announcing details of an anti-war protest to be held at Shannon airport next Saturday.

At the press conference the Labour Party spokesman on foreign affairs Michael D Higgins accused the Minister for Justice, Michael McDowell, of McCarthyite remarks in relation to those who took part in the major anti-war demonstration last week.

The MEP Patricia McKenna accused the US of trying to bully and blackmail members of the UN Security Council.

The press conference was also addressed by Aengus Ó Snodaigh and Joe Higgins.

Shannon demonstration

Saturday's demonstration will assemble at 2pm in Shannon Town Centre in the car park in front of Lidl supermarket. The protest will then march to Shannon Airport where a rally will be held.
