Priest attacked during Mass in Bangor

A priest has suffered head injuries in an attack that took place while he was saying mass in Bangor in County Down this morning.

A priest has suffered head injuries in an attack that took place while he was saying Mass in Bangor in County Down this morning.

Father Henry McCann was saying 10am Mass when a man came into the church, removed a statue from the crib and used it to hit the priest across the head.

The man was restrained by members of the congregation and arrested by police.

It is understood he shouted remarks about paedophile priests and the allegations of clerical involvement in the Claudy bombing.
