RTE News has learned that members of the Labour Parliamentary Party have voted narrowly not to allow their Justice spokesman, Joe Costello, to accept an invitation to travel to Colombia to monitor the trial of the three Irishmen facing charges of training the FARC guerrilla movement.
Earlier, the committee campaigning to bring the three men home, announced that six members of the Oireachtas had accepted invitations in personal capacities to travel to Bogota later this month to see that the men get a fair trial.
The five going to Colombia are TDs, John Curran of Fianna Fáil, Sean Crowe of Sinn Féin and Independent TD Finian McGrath, and senators Mary White of Fianna Fáil and Paul Bradford of Fine Gael.
They are due to travel to Bogota for the next phase of the trial of the three men later this month.
The trip is being paid for by a support group for the three men.
