Postmortem after man dies in custody

A postmortem examination on the man who died after becoming ill in a cell at Mill Street Garda Station in Galway has shown that he had no injuries and was not the victim of foul play.

Thomas Mongan, of Gaelcarrig Park, Newcastle, was arrested yesterday evening and taken to the station after what Gardaí described as a public order offence on a city centre street.

He became ill about two hours later and died after being admitted to University College Hospital.
