The Iraqi Deputy Prime Minister, Tareq Aziz, has confirmed reports that the Palestinian guerrilla leader, Abu Nidal, committed suicide in Baghdad. His body was discovered at his home in the city.
The US television station, CNN, said it had been told that Nidal committed suicide after he admitted to conspiring against the Iraqi authorities.
Nidal, who was 65, was one of the world's most wanted men. He was the head of a group which broke with the Palestine Liberation Organisation led by Yasser Arafat in 1974.
