A 27-year-old man is recovering in hospital after being shot in an attack close to the border in County Louth.
The incident happened in Omeath, on the Carlingford peninsula, shortly after midnight.
It is understood that the man was shot in the chest and both hands.
He was taken to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital in Drogheda where his injuries are said not to be life-threatening.
Gardaí are still trying to establish the circumstances in which the shooting took place.
