The Sinn Féin TD for Kerry North, Martin Ferris, has had a charge against him under the Public Order Act dismissed for lack of proof. Mr Ferris had been charged with engaging in threatening, abusive and insulting words or behaviour near Knocknagoshel in Co. Kerry on April 15th.
At a sitting of Tralee District Court, Sgt Stephen Flaherty gave evidence that Ferris lunged towards him and told him he would regret having pulled over a car driven by Mr Ferris's director of elections, James Sheehan.
Judge Leo Malone said he was not satisfied that the case had been proven and he dismissed the charge. He also dismissed 3 charges of dangerous driving against James Sheehan.
